Skipped the madness

Katja Thater relaxing in Las Vegas WSOP playing poker

Today is the $1000 NLHE event with rebuys and single and double add-on’s. After we slept for over 13 hours straight we have been late for that tournament and decided to skip it. I was not feeling good about playing it anyway as 1) I am still shocked from yesterdays blow and 2) this event might easily cost about $5000 is you happen to get a “crazy” table and lose some races. As exmplae: Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi is reported to have taken 22 (!) rebuys/addons. He went all-in blind on seven consecutive hands.

Expensive Buy-Ins
Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi spent $22,000 on re-buys and add-ons in the first two levels of play and Daniel Negreanu racked a $9,000 tab.

While I like that style I would hate sit on the same table with guys like this. I know one year Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu have been in a “rebuy” race and they took about 65 rebuys (counted togehter).

So, we took a day off, went to the Rio’s to check things out and play some satellites. It turned out that the lines were long as never before so I played only one, Katja lost interest. In my $275 satellite I managed to bust out 9th when my J/weak kicker lost to J/good kicker. I recogniced that I took the game not seriously enough and decided to quit playing poker for the day.

Lol, the black jack tables here at the Wynn have not been that much nicer to us so we lost a nice chunk of money there also before finally saying good-bye to gambling for the day.

Tomorrow Katja will be playing the Ladies Event ($1000 NLHE) and will watch her and the other “Ladies” while playing some satellites and side games. Then right behind on monday is a $1000 NLHE and on Tuesday the $2000 pot-limit holdem event. If we make no good score until then we will fly back to germany for 10 days and then come back for the main event.
